Jim Braun

Jim Braun until 2001 was a multigenerational Iowa corn, soybean, and hog farmer. He has served the Boards of numerous farm organizations, political central committees, and communities of social concern. Grassroots organizing, coalition building, and influencing state and federal policies are his passion today. Residing in Springfield, Illinois, he co-founded the Illinois Local Food and Farms Coalition, helped to draft and enact The Illinois Food, Farms, and Jobs Act of 2007 (HB1300), and its sister Bill (HB3990) in 2009. He served as co-coordinator of the Governor’s Local and Organic Food and Farm Task from 2007-2009, was recently appointed by Governor Quinn to the newly created Illinois Local Food, Farms, and Jobs Council, and serves on the national Board of Slow Food USA.
